Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes.
Five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear.
five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes.
How do you measure,
Measure a year?
In daylights?
In sunsets?
In midnights?
In cups of coffee?
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife?
In five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes.
How do you measure a year in a life?
How about love?
Measure in love...
Seasons of love...
(Jonathan Larson, 'Seasons of Love' from RENT The Musical)
On the day I left my first teaching job at The BRIT School, I was treated to an unexpected performance of ‘Seasons of Love’ from the musical ‘Rent’. It was a magical, memorable moment that I will never forget. I was surrounded by love - past students, current students and colleagues. I’ll never forget it.
I have always loved this song and the words poignantly hit the nail on the head in terms of how we measure what's important to us.
Over the course of this past, very difficult year, I have had so many conversations with people who have commented time and again on how their notion of what is 'important' to them in their lives has shifted. For me, the year has provided an opportunity to reflect and take stock of where I am at in my life; what do I value? what makes me tick? what makes me happy? where are my strengths? what am I curious about? how can I make sure I am living my best life and making the most of every day?
I'm still grappling with the answers to these questions, so I'm setting myself and anyone else that wants to join me, the challenge of taking on a year of thinking, doing, and 'being' linked to the heart, mind & body.
Let's measure the year by finding the joy, calming the 'self talk' , re-framing the 'self talk' , being in the moment, making plans, achieving goals , feeling fulfilled, having fun and being our very best selves in the here and now!
So - challenge on!
Join me in February for our first month of being curious, reflecting, getting inspired and 'finding' our feet in 2021
